چکیده

We consider the problem of evaluating in streaming (i.e. in a single left-toright pass) a nested word transduction with a limited amount of memory. A transduction T is said to be height bounded memory (HBM) if it can be evaluated with a memory that depends only on the size of T and on the height of the input word. We show that it is decidable in coNPTime for a nested word transduction defined by a visibly pushdown transducer (VPT), if it is HBM. In this case, the required amount of memory may depend exponentially on the height of the word. We exhibit a sufficient, decidable condition for a VPT to be evaluated with a memory that depends quadratically on the height of the word. This condition defines a class of transductions that strictly contains all determinizable VPTs.

Streamable Fragments of Forward XPath

We present a query answering algorithm for a fragment of Forward XPath on Xml streams that we obtain by compilation to deterministic nested word automata. Our algorithm is earliest and in polynomial time. This proves the finite streamability of the fragment of Forward XPath with child steps, outermost-descendant steps, label tests, negation, and conjunction (aka filters), under the reasonable a...

A Uniformization Theorem for Nested Word to Word Transductions

We study the class of relations implemented by nested word to word transducers (also known as visibly pushdown transducers). We show that any such relation can be uniformized by a functional relation from the same class, implemented by an unambiguous transducer. We give an exponential upper bound on the state complexity of the uniformization, improving a previous doubly exponential upper bound....

Queries on Xml streams with bounded delay and concurrency

Query answering algorithms on Xml streams check answer candidates on the fly in order to avoid the unnecessary buffering whenever possible. The delay and concurrency of a query are two measures for the degree of their streamability. They count the maximal number of stream elements during the life time for some query answer, and respectively, the maximal number of simultaneously alive answer can...

Monadic Second-Order Definable Graph Transductions: A Survey

Courcelle, B., Monadic second-order definable graph transductions: a survey, Theoretical Computer Science 126 (1994) 53-75. Formulas of monadic second-order logic can be used to specify graph transductions, i.e., multivalued functions from graphs to graphs. We obtain in this way classes of graph transductions, called monadic second-order definable graph transductions (or, more simply, d&able tr...

Composition of Path Transductions

We propose to study two infinite graph transformations that we respectively call bounded and unbounded path transduction. These graph transformations are based on path substitutions and graph products. When graphs are considered as automata, path transductions correspond to rational word transductions on the accepted languages. They define strict subclasses of monadic transductions and preserve...
